ALLAGASH – Clark McBreairty, 89, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Thursday, March 12, 2009, with his loving wife, Phyllis (Morrison) McBreairty, by his side. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to their mother for the extraordinary care that she provided for their father throughout his lifetime. Clark was born Sept. 30, 1919, to Albert McBreairty Sr. and Eva (Kelly) McBreairty. He began a career as a woodsman at a very young age. In the early years, his agility and quickness on the St. John River log drives are the source of many captivating stories, retold most recently at the 2008 American Folk Festival in Bangor. Clark and his brother, Theron, ran a logging operation in the “Meadow Brook” area and operated a sawmill on the bank of Little Black River for more than 30 years, delivering loads of lumber throughout northern Maine, most notably to Old Town Canoe Co. After Theron retired, Clark’s son-in-law, Bernard, partnered with him in the business for several more years until Clark’s retirement in 1982. Clark loved spending time in the beautiful North Maine Woods and always looked forward to his snowmobiling excursions with his brother-in-law, Roland Jackson; his cousin, Rex McBreairty; and friends. During the warmer seasons of the year, you could always find him sitting on the bank of his beloved St. John River watching the river run by, noting any changes from the previous day and happy to share conversation with any and all who stopped by to chat. Clark served for many years on the board of directors of Aroostook Bible Camp, Allagash, and was a lifelong member and served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Allagash, located right next door to his home, where friends and family were always welcome. His life of prayer, faithful church attendance and devotion to his family exemplify his commitment to his Savior, Jesus Christ. Clark is survived by his wife, Phyllis; four daughters, Linda McBreairty of Allagash, Gail Walker and her husband, Wesley, of Bangor, Regina Kelly and her husband, Niles, of Allagash and Marilyn McBreairty and her husband, Bernard, of Allagash; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Bradley Walker and his wife, Alecia, of Hermon and their son, Ian and a daughter expected in June; Barry Walker of Alexandria, Va.; Lance Kelly and his girlfriend, Felicia Mc-Breairty, of Allagash and their sons, Dillon and Ethan; and Shauna McBreairty of Bangor and great-granddaughter, Taylor Jo Kelly of Bangor; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Clark was predeceased by his son who died at birth; one grandson, Ryan Kelly; six brothers and three sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to call 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Allagash Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday with Pastor John Dik officiating. After the service, friends and relatives are invited to share memories and refreshments at the Allagash School gymnasium. Spring interment will be at Allagash Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Allagash Baptist Church Parsonage Fund, 1077 Allagash Road, Allagash, ME 04774. Arrangements by Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent.
