LUBEC – Ray A. Rice, 68, passed away unexpectedly March 22, 2009, at his home. He was born May 7, 1940, in Lubec, the son of Milton and Nina (Farmer) Rice . He was very active in his community and worked for many years as a bus driver for Lubec schools. He had a great love for children and especially enjoyed coaching the girl’s high school basketball and softball teams. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling, as well as hunting, fishing and traveling. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved to spoil them rotten. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, John. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Charlotte (Porter) Rice; two sons, David and Johnny and his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Angel and her husband, Scott Lyons, all of Lubec; four grandchildren, Jeffrey, Mathew, Brittany and Chris; five stepgrandchildren; four sisters, Juanita Larrancy and Norene Preston, both of Machias, Evelyn Knights of Ellsworth and Jane Matthews of Lubec; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Willie Corey. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at Christian Temple Church, Lubec. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Ray Rice Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund, care of Bar Harbor Bank, Washington Street, Lubec, ME 04652. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
