FORT FAIRFIELD – Susan E. Achorn, 71, wife of the late Lester H. Achorn, passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 20, 2009, in Presque Isle. She was born Oct. 31, 1937, in Caribou, the daughter of Ralph and Thelma (Lovely) Shaw. She was a graduate of Caribou High School, Class of 1955, and was married to Lester H. Achorn, Oct. 21, 1961. Susan had been employed for many years by Interstate Foods of Fort Fairfield as a quality control/shift supervisor. She was a dedicated member of Fort Fairfield United Parish Church, where she served as a lay minister and was a member of United Parish Women. Susan had been past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star, Goodwill Chapter No. 85, Fort Fairfield. Susan touched the lives of many and brought joy to the hearts of all who knew her through her never ending kindness. In addition to her parents, Susan was predeceased by her husband, Lester, Sept. 14, 2004; and one brother, Royal “Roger” Shaw. She is survived by five daughters, Carrie Shaw and her husband, Steve, of Fort Fairfield, Carla MacFarline and her husband, Wayne, of Presque Isle, Carmen Bourgoine of Caribou, Amy Russell and her husband, David, of Madawaska and Leslie Achorn and her companion, Peter Page, of Limestone; seven grandchildren, Jason Russell of Fort Rucker, Ala., Justin Kinney of Old Orchard Beach, David Ferrier of Almyra, N.Y., Margo Ferrier of Fort Fairfield, Mallory Ferrier of Presque Isle, Matthew Russell of Madawaska and Riley Parady of Caribou; two brothers, Eugene R. Shaw and his wife, Mary Alice, of Columbus, Ga., and Arnold C. Shaw of Carlisle, Pa.; two sisters, Maxine Higgins of Fort Fairfield and Florence Preble of Springfield; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 23, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, at United Parish Church, 4 Church St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Diane Langworthy officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held in the church reception area after the funeral service. Spring interment will be held at Green Ridge Cemetery, Caribou.
