For 33 years, thanks to the efforts of staff and many volunteers, one of the most enjoyable signs of spring in eastern Maine is the Bangor Y Spring Fair.

This year’s fair is 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, March 27; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, March 28; and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at Bangor Auditorium.

Admission is $5 for age 13 and older, $3 for children 1-12, free for children under 1.

Presale tickets for all ages are $2 and are available through Thursday, March 26, at both Bangor Y locations, on Hammond Street and Second Street in Bangor.

Ride specials of unlimited rides for $12 are offered 4-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Marie Stewart of the Bangor Y hopes you and your family make plans to attend this delightful event that has always had “something for everyone.”

Stewart wrote that this year’s “exciting carnival rides” include Tubs of Fun, Wacky Shack, Pirate Shop, Moonwalk, Sky Fighter Jets and Kiddie Race Car along with “lots of yummy carnival foods such as hot dogs, cotton candy, lemonade, fried dough and snow cones.”

And Stewart hopes you “don’t forget to stop by the Sweet Tooth Cafe for a cup of gourmet coffee or a delectable dessert!”

President and founder Linda Ouellette reports that, until further notice, Precious Paws Rescue and Adoption of Van Buren is waiving the adoption fee on all cats 6 months and older, and that donations will be accepted in place of the adoption fee.

The organization is making this offer, Ouellette said, so that during these difficult economic times the opportunity to adopt a rescued cat is still an option for those who can give these cats a good home.

If you cannot adopt a cat but would like to make a donation, visit www.mypreciouspaws.org, e-mail linda@mypreciouspaws.org or call her at 868-2828.
