BANGOR – Grace Estelle Day, 80, died peacefully April 30, 2009, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was born Jan. 11, 1929, in Whiting, daughter of Harold E. and Dorothea E. (Moore) Dennison. Grace was a graduate of Lubec High School and the University of Maine, Class of 1952, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in medical technology. After graduation she was employed as a lab technician at Eastern Maine General Hospital, now Eastern Maine Medical Center. After raising her family, Grace was employed for many years in food service in the Bangor School System at Fifth Street Junior High School, now James F. Doughty School. Grace enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially longtime friends and neighbors, Ken and Dot Simmons. She was an active member of Hammond Street Congregational Church UCC, having served on numerous boards and committees. Surviving are three children, Wayne A. Day and his wife, Suzanne Philp, of Exeter, Raymond E. Day and his wife, Catherine, of Shirley Mills and Elaine D. Bogan and her husband, John, of Glenburn; and six grandchildren, Nicholas Bogan, Jeremy Day, Megan Day, Kristin Bogan, Moriah Day and Emmah Day. Grace was predeceased by her husband, Philip B. Day; a grandson, Dylan Day; a sister, Alona Dennison; and a brother, Alden Dennison. The family expresses their gratitude to Beacon Hospice. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, May 4, at Hammond Street Congregational Church with the Rev. Mark Allen Doty, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service Monday in the church vestry. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
