BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Richard “Dick” Pease, passed away May 4, 2009, in Brooksville, Fla. He was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Portland, the son of Fred Pease and Emily Louise (Simpson) Pease. He graduated from Portland High School in 1941 and then entered the U.S. Army Air Corps. Dick was crew chief on a C-47 transport plane during World War II that was shot down over Erfurt, Germany, after the D-Day invasion. He got some bad burns to his legs and head, and was flown to a hospital in Paris where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was later sent to a “replacement depot” in England, where he processed troops who were going home. On July 26, 1945, he married Laura John, who predeceased him in 1989. They had two children, Judy Moore of Ellsworth and Robert Pease, who predeceased him in 1967. Dick was employed for 37 years by New England Telephone, Portland and Ellsworth. He made many lifelong friends working in the central offices and on the test board and as the union president. Throughout the years, he enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, golf, horse racing and dancing. He was a VFW and Mason member and previously a member of North Deering Congregational Church. In 1991 he married Ruth Campbell and they wintered in Brooksville, Fla., with summers in Lamoine. In addition to Ruth; and his daughter, Judy, he is survived by his great friend and son-in-law, John Moore; two grandchildren, Jessica Dagrosa and her husband, Joseph, of Pinecrest, Fla., and Robert Moore and his wife, Reem, of Morgantown, W.V.; six great-grandchildren, Aleck, Ben, Jed and Olivia Dagrosa, Adam and Judy Moore. He is also survived by Ruth’s children, Jill Campbell, David and Jean Campbell and Peter and Martha Campbell. A graveside memorial and interment service with his wife, all his great-grandchildren, his two grandchildren and his daughter and son-in-law will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at Forest City Cemetery, South Portland. All are welcome. A memorial service will also be held 4 p.m. Friday, July 17, at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, Ellsworth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O.
