BANGOR and BREWER – John Leslie O’Connell, 63, died May 12, 2009, at his residence. He was born Oct. 30, 1945, in Bangor, the son of Patrick L. and Priscilla (Martin) O’Connell. John graduated from John Bapst High School in 1963, and then graduated from Husson College in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He served his country in the U.S. Army, 1966-1969 and in the Air National Guard, 1969-1981. John worked for Fox and Ginn and for Maine Energy for many years. He was an avid reader and trivia expert. John was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, Pine Cone Council No. 114, Third Degree. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. John was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and son, and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Claudette (Soucy) O’Connell; two sons, John Leslie O’Connell Jr. and Jocelyn Merrick of Haydenville, Mass., and Brian Patrick O’Connell and wife, Irene, of Fairfax, Va.; a granddaughter, Aelisa Priscilla O’Connell of Fairfax, Va.; siblings, Tim O’Connell of East Hartford, Conn., Marjorie Seward of Henderson, Nev., Jean Nixon of Jenkintown, Pa., Michael O’Connell of Portland, Daniel O’ Connell of Brewer, Susan Kennedy of Dedham, Judy Cantone of Plaistow, N.H., and Kevin O’Connell of Brewer; numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents. Friends are invited to call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 15, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor.
