MILBRIDGE – Dennis R. Bagley, 71, died May 13, 2009, with his family by his side at a Jonesport health care facility, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 26, 1937, in Columbia, son of Roland and June (Geel) Bagley. He was educated in the Milbridge school system, theological school in Canada and graduated from Brunswick High. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961. When Dennis was in Connecticut, he belonged to the Shoreline Dart Association and won a couple of dart tournaments, including a trip to Bermuda to play a local team. He loved to play golf, the New England Patriots, dancing and in his youth was an avid outdoorsman. He was also proud of his work building stone walls. He is survived by his partner, Judith W. Joy of Milbridge; two sons, Dondi D. Bagley and his partner, Kathy, of Largo, Fla., and Derrick L. Bagley of Holiday, Fla.; stepchildren, Jeffrey Joy and his wife, Michele, of Niantic, Conn., Deborah Joy of Lawndale, Calif., and Karen Torrenti and her husband, James, of Chester, Conn.; grandchildren, Nicole, Amanda, Cori, Austin, Timothy, Chris, Candice, Samantha and Andrew; his mother, June (Geel) Baird; sisters, Rita Sachs of Milbridge, Myrna Lamson of Jonesport, Marilyn Chaston of Virgina and Veronica Philips of Plaistow, N.H.; half sisters and half brothers, Gerald Baird of Plymouth, Mass., Laurie Baird and her partner, Beldon Morse, of Jonesboro, Joe Baird of Plymouth, Mass., Mike Baird and his wife, Linda, of Machias, Mary Carr and her partner, Jake, of Nokomis, Fla., Eddie Baird of Nokomis, Fla., and John Baird of Plymouth, Mass.; one stepsister, Susie Alley of Moodus, Conn.; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Roland E. Bagley. A service of remembrance will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Main Street, Milbridge. A graveside service with military honors will be after at Wilson-Bagley Cemetery at Rays Point. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the services at The Ledges of Milbridge, U.S. Route 1A.
