BANGOR and FORT FAIRFIELD – Geraldine K. Neilsen, 85, passed away peacefully May 15, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Fannie and Sedgewick Kyle. After graduating from Fort Fairfield High School, Geraldine furthered her education and received her cosmetologist license. For many years, she and her late husband, Everald, operated their own beauty salon and barbershop business in Fort Fairfield. She also attended United Parish Church. Geraldine and her husband moved to the Bangor area in 1984 and she worked part-time at Bangor High School in the food services department. She was a very kind woman and will be greatly missed by those who knew her. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Everald M. Neilsen; her parents; her much loved daughter, Charlene Sirois Locke; and three brothers, Floyd, Burpee and Leonard Kyle. Geraldine is survived by a very special granddaughter, Erin K. Locke of Bangor; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Barton, Beryl and her husband, Jay Young, and Greta Kimball; brothers-in-law, Malcolm Neilsen and his wife, Alta, and James Neilsen; a special nephew and his wife, Seward and Joanne Neilsen; several nieces and nephews; former son-in-law, Gary Locke; and a special friend, Jane Harburger. A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Diane Langworthy officiating.
