BANGOR and SHERMAN – Bernice (Smart) Bragdon, 91, passed away May 29, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born April 28, 1918, in Mount Chase, the daughter of Clarence and Elizabeth (McDonald) Smart. Bernice attended school at Mount Chase and Silver Ridge. She was a telephone operator in Sherman and Bangor for a little more than 43 years. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Troutt and husband, James; a son, Arnold Bragdon and wife, Rose, all of Sherman; a brother, Donald Smart and wife, Hazel, of Mattawamkeag; a granddaughter, Lorna Harris and husband, Scott, of Patten; grandsons, Todd Troutt and wife, Michelle, of Hermon and Steven Bragdon and wife, Monica, of Glenburn; three great-grandsons, Dylan Harris of Patten, Jeff Troutt of Hermon and Brock Bragdon of Glenburn; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Bragdon of Glenburn; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Elgin Smart; a sister, Helen Milson; two half brothers, Walter Briggs and Sam Morrison; two half sisters, Virgie Willett and Madeline McLeod; a granddaughter, Dawn Marie Bragdon of Sherman; and a great-grandson, Spc. Dustin Harris of Patten. Friends are invited to call 1-2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a memorial service will be held 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Gifts in her memory may be made to Spc.
