BANGOR and ALLAGASH – John “Flash” Gordon Gardner, went to be with the Lord May 30, 2009, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. John was born March 8, 1925, in Allagash, to Lee H. and Pearl (McBreairty) Gardner. John served his country during the Korean War and had many citations for valor, which included the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with two bravery stars, and United Nations Service Medal. His honorable discharge listed his performance as excellent. John worked in construction for many years and was an avid harness racing fan, which he attended with many of his buddies on a regular basis. He is survived by sisters, Linda Gardner of Allagash, Lucinda Crawford and husband, Michael, of Bangor, Sara Gardner of Bangor and Phyllis Craig and husband, Franklin, of Brewer; brothers, Warren Gardner and wife, Diane, of Brewer, Roy Gardner and wife, Maude, of Allagash, Rodney Gardner and wife, Dorothy, of Topsham, Llewellyn Gardner of St. Francis, Bryden Gardner of Bangor, Thomas Gardner and wife, Joyce, of Corinth and William Gardner of Brewer; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Lee and Dwight Gardner; and sister-in-law, Mary Gardner. John will be sadly missed by his family who loved him dearly. The family thanks the staff of the Maine Veterans’ Home for John’s care during his stay. A graveside service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, at Allagash Municipal Cemetery, Allagash, with the Rev. Gary Gardner presiding.
