BAILEYVILLE – Richard “Dick” L. Lowe, 76, passed away Friday, May 29, 2009, with his family by his side at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. Richard was born Aug. 5, 1932, in Waite, son of the late Paul and Irene (Jones) Lowe. After graduating from Princeton High School, Class of 1950, he began work at Nason’s Sawmill, Princeton, and then to St. Croix Paper Co. In 1952 Richard was drafted into the U.S. Army, becoming a veteran of the Korean War. After the war, Richard returned home and continued his employment at the paper company, retiring in 1994 with more than 40 years of service. On May 7, 1955, he married Patricia Sullivan in St. John, New Brunswick. Richard loved to stay active. He was a member of William T. Wren Post No. 23 American Legion, Spednic Club, Princeton Rod & Gun Club and Georgia Pacific Quarter Century Club. Richard served on the board of directors for St. Croix Federal Credit Union, Baileyville, for more than 20 years, Baileyville School Committee and on Baileyville Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, hunting, fishing, trapping, traveling, vegetable gardening and spending time with his family, especially at their camp on Squirrel Point. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Patricia Lowe; two children, Tim Lowe and his wife, Kelly, of Princeton and Lee Ann Lowe and her husband, Mike Goslin, of Gray; two sisters, Anita Lydic of Baileyville and Betty Coltart and her husband, Russell, of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Chad Dwelley and his fiancee, Katie Thibodeau, of Bangor and Raynel Dwelley of Machias; a great-granddaughter, Reagan Dwelley; his nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Richard’s life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at People’s United Methodist Church, Third Avenue and Summit Street, Baileyville. Burial with military honors will be after at Woodland Cemetery.
