LINCOLN – Dr. George Uriel Martin, 83, passed away May 31, 2009, at his home after a long struggle with Parkinson’s. Dr. Martin was born in 1925, in Old Town, the son of George H. Martin and Emma Marie Bosse. Dr. Martin graduated from Old Town High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, acquiring a Seal of Merit while being an electrical engineer. He attended and graduated from the College of National Chiropractic and attended postgraduate school at the University of Massachusetts. He was a member of the National Chiropractic Association; Roentgenology Association; Bangor Commission, S.P.R.S.; Rising Virtue Lodge No. 10; Accepted Scottish Rite, Bangor and Brewer Shrine Club; Anah Temple; Tuscan Chapter No. 10, Eastern Star S.P.R.S.; Elks Club; Lions Club; the National College of Chiropractic, Washington, D.C.; and the National College of Drugless Physicians. He was the first appointed chiropractic surgeon on the Anah Temple Shiners, and belonged to the American Legion while also forming nine Boy Scout Troops in Lewiston, while practicing medicine there. The wonderful Doctor was also in the Book of Americans WHO’S WHO’S, and loved to travel and camp. Dr. Martin is survived by his wife, Patricia Martin; stepdaughter, Karen Sprague; children by a previous marriage, Susan and David Bowman of Florida, Anne and Ray Fultz of Virginia; grandchildren, Stacy Givens of Florida, Robert Enright of Chicago and Jessie Fields of Virginia; and great-grandchildren, twins, Emma and Ryan. In keeping with the Doctor’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
