GREENBUSH – Sharon Lorraine Smart, 68, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully July 21, 2009, surrounded by her loving family at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 8, 1941, at her home in Greenbush, a daughter of the late Linwood Carroll and Angie Pelkey Carroll. Sharon graduated from Old Town High School in 1960 and then went on to earn a two-year degree in nursing at Presque Isle. After graduating she married Jacob J. Smart of Greenbush and moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where they lived for six years and had two of their five children. After moving back to their hometown, they had their last three children, and settled to raise their family. Sharon served faithfully at her church for more than 40 years, where she enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, D.V.B.S. and Junior Church. In her later years she taught preschool with her niece for seven years. Sharon enjoyed gardening, cooking, nature walks, traveling and day trips. She took much pleasure in attending her children and grandchildren’s various events. Sharon’s life can be summarized by her love for the Lord and family. Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Jacob J. Smart of Greenbush; one daughter, Laurie Ann Chubbuck and her husband, Dennis; four sons, Michael J. Smart and wife, Penny, Kevin J. Smart and wife, Tammy, Craig G. Smart and wife, Rhonda, and Matthew D. Smart and wife, Carrie; and 14 grandchildren, Blaine and Susan Chubbuck, Trisha and Scott Smart, Andrew, Ashley, Ryan and Kristina Smart, Adam, Cody and Dillon Smart, and Chelsea, Colby and Allison Smart. She is also survived by her four brothers, Linwood and Gwendola Carroll, Durwood and Jane Carroll, Orman and Doris Carroll, and Elden and Sharon Carroll; many nieces and nephews; and one very special niece, Kathy Madden. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at the Helen S. Dunn School, Greenbush. In lieu of flowers, at Sharon’s request, please bring wild flowers. Donations may be made in her memory to Olamon Faith Bible Church, 126 Military Road, Greenbush, ME 04418. Services entrusted to Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town.
