CASTINE – Deborah Ann McLaughlin, 57, died Aug. 20, 2009, at a local hospital. She was born March 12, 1952, in Castine, daughter of Kenneth and Irene (Gray) Bowden. Debi was a graduate of Bucksport High School, Class of 1970. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She spent many years participating in Daffodil Days and helping out with St. Jude’s Bike-A-Thon. She was a member of Castine’s recreation committee and loved helping with the town parades and organizing all types of festivities including several scouting activities. She avidly enjoyed donating her time to the APO at Maine Maritime Academy. She became a “mom” to so many of the midshipmen attending school there and she continued to keep in touch with them long after they graduated. She loved her “adoptees” just like they were her own. She will be sadly missed and is survived by her husband of 37 years, Robert “Bob” McLaughlin of Castine; her son, Matthew McLaughlin and his wife, Angela, of Bangor; three grandchildren, Bayley, 11, Brinley, 9, and Bradley McLaughlin, 6, all of Bangor; several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Dianna Paine and her husband, Mark, of Castine; and her brother, David Bowden and his wife, Brenda, of Bucksport. She was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Irene Bowden. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at Castine Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Sandra Reed officiating. There will be a celebration of life 2 p.m. Aug. 30 at Dianna and Mark Paine’s house in Castine. In lieu of flowers, in respect of Debi’s wishes, the family would greatly appreciate that donations be made in her memory to her grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly and wished to help provide for their education and future. Donations should be sent in the care of her son, Matthew McLaughlin, P.O. Box 342, Castine, ME 04421.
