CORINTH – Madelyn B. Campbell, 99, wife of the late Arthur W. Campbell, died Sept. 10, 2009, at a Bangor nursing home after a brief illness. She was born Oct. 10, 1909, in Corinth, the daughter of J. Harvey and Eva (Campbell) Blackwell. Madelyn lived in Corinth her entire life and graduated from East Corinth Academy in 1928. She taught school prior to her marriage to Arthur, Dec. 6, 1930, and was married 60 years. She was a devoted member of Corinth Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Mission Circle. A loving mother and homemaker, she will be remembered for her molasses cookies. As Corinth’s eldest citizen, she was the holder of the Boston Post Cane. Because of her health, she moved to Phillips-Strickland House, Bangor, in 2005. She is survived by two sons, Keith Campbell of Farmington, N.M., and Brian Campbell and his wife, Sheila, of Exeter; two granddaughters, Jolynn Campbell of Bangor, and Amanda (Percival) Cushman and her husband, Michael, of Bangor; a grandson, Jeffrey Campbell and his wife, Dawn, of Exeter; two great-grandsons, Cole and Brody Campbell of Exeter; a special nephew, Earl Blackwell and his wife, Sandra, of Levant; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Madelyn was predeceased by her husband, in 1991; her daughter, Gwendolyn Percival, in 2004; a sister, Lois (Blackwell) Goodwin; and a brother, Earl Blackwell Sr. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday with Pastor Isaiah Hill and Pastor Carl Smith officiating.
