BANGOR – Anita M. Fortier, 84, died Sept. 13, 2009, at a local nursing home. She was born Dec. 26, 1924, in East Corinth, the daughter of Dennis and Catherine (Bechard) Marquis. Anita had many loves; traveling with her husband, children, grandchildren, and playing cards with friends and family. She enjoyed bowling, collecting dolls, dining out and telling stories of her childhood growing up on the farm in East Corinth. She was a member of Brewer Eagles Club and active with Bangor Area Stroke Club. She worked many years in the shoe factories both in Lewiston and Bangor. She retired at age 65 from James Taylor Hospital. She is survived by one son, Robert and his wife, Susan Fortier and their daughters, Kathryn and Marianne; two daughters, Linda McPherson and her children, Tracy, John and Shane, and Mrs. Sandra and her husband, Robert Eslin and their children, Robert, Jennifer and Sarah; 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; two sisters, Bernice Newcomb and Sylvia Gallant; and one brother, Robert Marquis. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister. The family wishes to thank the staff at Westgate Manor for the compassion and care they gave Anita. Friends may call 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Catholic Church. Interment will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn. Friends who wish may make donations in her memory to Westgate Manor, Bangor.
