KITTERY – Edith Arlene Cunningham, 95, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, in York. “Edie,” as she was known by most, was born May 25, 1914, in Madison, daughter of the late John and Alice (Clark) Walker. Edie led an active life. She was an avid bowler and a member of several bowling leagues. She enjoyed gardening and throughout the years she and her husband had a nice neighborhood vegetable garden that many enjoyed. She loved to watch sports, play games, and visit with family and close friends. Edie was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and the Altrusa Club. Edie was predeceased by her husband, Clifton Cunningham Sr.; a stepson, Clifton Jr.; a stepdaughter, Sally Cunningham Conary; a sister, Dot; and a brother, Daniel “Irvin.” Surviving are a sister, Barbara and her husband, Marvin Parker, of Florida; four grandchildren, Robert Conary Jr. and his wife, Mary Lou, of Orland, Scott Cunningham and his wife, Lynn, of High Point, N.C., Richard Conary of West Hartford, Conn., and Mark Cunningham of High Point, N.C.; five great-grandchildren; a very special niece, Rose Marie Coelho and her husband, Roy, of Meriden, Conn.; several other nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind close friends, Avis and Judy; and her extended family and friends at Meeting House Village, Kittery, where she resided up until the time of her passing. A period of visitation for Edie will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Meeting House Village Chapel, Kittery.
