OTIS and BANGOR – Philip Damon McGinley, 89, died peacefully Oct. 2, 2009, with his family by his side at his home at Beech Hill Pond. He was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Winn, the son of Marion McGinley and Margaret McGinley Clark.

He graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1939. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II in the South Pacific, and was a drill sergeant at Parris Island, South Carolina. Philip received an honorable discharge, Oct. 30, 1945. He married Margaret “Peg” Higgins of Bangor; they celebrated their 61st anniversary in May 2009. He worked for Maine Central Railroad as an engineer and also for Allied Chemical Corp. as a plant manager for more than 23 years. He was predeceased by his parents; four sisters and two brothers. Surviving are his wife, Margaret “Peg” (Higgins) McGinley of Otis and Bangor; two sons, Michael McGinley and his wife, Jean Wu, of Bellevue, Wash., and Patrick McGinley and his wife, Lily Trevino, of Denton, Texas; two daughters, Diane McGinley of Westbrook and Ann McGinley and her husband, Marc Holland, of North Granby, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Matthew McGinley, Jennifer Maskala, Brian McGinley, Jacob McGinley, Stephanie McGinley, Michael Holland and Ryan Holland; three great-grandchildren, Daniel McGinley, Mason Frank, Daemon Maskala.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at St. Paul the Apostle St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor.
