MILLINOCKET – Violet Morrison Neal, 92, passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at a Millinocket health care facility with her family by her side. She was born Nov. 11, 1916, in Millinocket, the daughter of Clara and Daniel Morrison. Vi grew up in Millinocket in a large and loving family. She graduated from Stearns High School. Vi married Jack Neal, July 26, 1941, and was married for 62 years until his death on Sept. 15, 2003. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, who enjoyed hosting family and holiday dinners. One of the biggest joys of her life was entertaining and caring for her grandchildren and having them for sleepovers at Nana Vi’s. She had many friends and enjoyed getting together for Club and going on day trips to the coast. After retirement, she and Jack enjoyed winters in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. She was a lifelong member of First Congregational Church of Millinocket, attending faithfully until her health prevented her from doing so. She is survived by one daughter, Joan Soulard and her husband, Raymond, of Contoocook, N.H.; a son, John Neal and his wife, Betsy, of Millinocket; grandchildren, Heather Pray of Old Orchard Beach, Michelle Mason and husband, Kevin, of Stoneham, Mass., Jonathan Neal of Alton and Katie Carr and husband, Chris, of Millinocket; great-grandchildren, Javan Pray and Madison Carr; brothers, Fred Morrison and wife, Leatha, and Dick Morrison, both of Millinocket; a sister, Ethel Cianchette of Pittsfield; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Larry Theriault of Elkton, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. Vi was predeceased by her husband, John Neal; brothers, Rod Morrison and wife, Rose, and Don Morrison and wife, Ann; sisters, Marguerite Doane and husband, Raymond, Geraldine Tara and husband, Jozef, Grace Greene and husband, Harold, and Ellie Horne and husband, Charles; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Morrison. The family expresses special thanks to the staff at Katahdin Nursing Home for the excellent care and love that was given. Visiting hours will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 and 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where the funeral service will begin 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Carolyn Bradley officiating. Burial will be held after at Millinocket Cemetery.
