HAMPDEN – Rita Lora Patterson, beloved daughter of Paul R. Patterson and Clarice E. Wing, left this world for her heavenly home Oct. 22, 2009. Rita was born Nov. 15, 1947, in Bangor. Rita joined Brownie Scouts as a young girl and participated at Amicus – Bouchea Center, where her friends and mentors encouraged her to be all she could be. There are not enough words to express the love, joy and learning she received there. Her Elvis collection had given her hours of pleasure. Rita began her Christmas season each year at Frankfort Congregational Church’s “hanging of the greens” service. She received such tender care from St. Joseph Home Health Care and Hospice. Amanda Prescott, her CP case manager, supported her at the hospital, rehabilitation and at home, seeing that all her needs were met; Mary LaChance of Elder Independence and all the years of special care from Home Care of Maine – thank you all. Rita taught everyone about unconditional love and the will to never give up. She is survived by her brother, Vernon P. Patterson and wife, Judy, of Whiting; a sister, Joyce P. Brown and husband, Roland, of Hampden; a sister-in-law, Jane Patterson of Brewer; her best friend, Heather Gran of Winterport, who was always there for her; one aunt, Elsie Stormann of Stillwater; three nephews, Paul Patterson, Stephen Patterson and Richard Brown; one niece, Kathlyn Worzel; two great-nephews, one great-niece and many cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; and one brother, Arthur M. Patterson. A funeral service for Rita will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Edward Costain officiating. Family and friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be private at Neally’s Corner Cemetery, Hampden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Rita’s memory may be made to Amicus – Bouchea Center, 96 Thirteenth St., Bangor, ME 04401 or St. Joseph Hospice, 900 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401.
