MARS HILL – Clifford E. Grass, 92, beloved husband of Maida A. Grass, died Nov. 24, 2009, at a Mars Hill health care facility. He was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Mars Hill, the son of Eldridge and Zipporah (Hodgon) Grass. Clifford had been employed as a refrigeration technician for more than 50 years and he also was a potato grower in the area for many years. In addition to his wife, Maida (Lello) Grass of Mars Hill, he is survived by two sons and their wives, Brian Lynn and Dixie Grass of San Antonio, Texas, and Evan and Linda Grass of Mars Hill; a daughter, Mavis “Lorraine” Ruotolo of Bradenton, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Grass of Mars Hill; and two sisters, Crystal Sprague of Milton, N.H., and Hope Field of Mars Hill. He was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Grass; and a sister, Jean Berardinelli. Services will be held at a later date.
