BROOKTON – Frances Grass, 88, died Nov. 27, 2009, surrounded by her family at her home, and peacefully took her place at God’s throne, where she was reunited with her loving husband, George. Born Oct. 18, 1921, in Squapan, Mom was known by everyone as a giving spirit, who lived life with a positive, loving attitude toward everyone she met. Her many interests included sewing, knitting, cooking, gardening and bird watching. Whether she was cooking meals for others, tending her flower gardens, caring for the hummingbirds, making or mending clothes for others or knitting countless pairs of mittens to keep everyone warm, she approached life as if the glass was always “half full” and as a result she touched and filled the lives of everyone around her. With her unlimited capacity to always see the good in every situation, Mom was always there for her family, providing just the right portions of support, encouragement, discipline and love to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and yes, her great-great-grandchildren. Mom was always home when we got home from school and Dad returned from work. For many years Mom served as a Sunday school teacher for Brookton Baptist Church, as well as treasurer for Brookton Cemetery Association. Frances was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, George; her parents, Frank and Mona (Palmer) Landry; two infant sons; her sisters, Mary McDonald, and Susan, Lou and Rose Landry; and her brothers, Ernest and Bill Landry. She is survived by her brother, Roland Landry of Brookton; her sister, Myrt Stoddard of Orono; as well as her children, Russell and Donna Grass of Brookton, Morris and Barbara Grass of Weston, Rose and Herbert Williams of Molunkus and Minnie Sue and Michael Childers of Portsmouth, N.H.; 15 cherished grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren to which she was a very special Grammie and Nana. She also leaves behind her best friend, Marjorie White of Brookton. The family says a special thank you to Jane Zimmerman; you went above and beyond what you were called to do, you are a very special lady. Per mom’s wishes, there will be no visiting hours or funeral services. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Eaton Cemetery, Danforth, with Pastor Peter Grenier and Pastor Frank Godley officiating. All who knew Frances are invited to join her family by gathering at her home for a time of remembrance and fellowship after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visiting Nurses of Aroostook-Hospice, 2 Water St., Suite 1, Houlton, ME 04730. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home-Bartlett Chapel, 24 Houlton Road, Danforth. Those who wish may sign an online register and leave written condolences at www.clayfuneralhome.com.
