RALEIGH, N.C. – Ethel Mildred Trafton, 95, died Saturday morning, Dec. 5, 2009, at her home. She was born July 9, 1914, in Danforth, daughter of the late Frank Emerson and Nettie (Osgood) Trafton. Her life was spent working with children as a registered nurse at Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Boston. She also served as the final director of the Children’s Hospital School of Nursing, where she passed along her knowledge to those who would follow. Survivors include her nieces, Lori VanRiper of Raleigh, N.C., Judy Long and husband, David, of Naples, Fla., and Sandra Roadcapp and husband, Jerry, of Simsonville, Ky.; five great-nieces and great-nephews; and 16 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, Ray Trafton and Milo Trafton. The family expresses their heartfelt thank to Dr. Brian Short; his nurse, Barbara; and the wonderful nurses and staff of Hospice of Wake County, who include Anna, Ann, Suzanne and Carolyn, as well as Ann and Megan from Maxim Health Care. Ethel will be buried next to her parents in Danforth at a later date.
