HOULTON and TROY – Helen Griffin, 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior Dec. 3, 2003, surrounded by family and friends at her home, after a long illness. She was born Oct. 9, 1935, in Houlton, the daughter of Vernold and Edna (Stewart) Gildard. Helen was a graduate of Houlton High School. She held several jobs during her lifetime, the last one being at Miller Drug, Bangor, for 17 years, where her customers thought the world of her. Helen was a member of Military Street Baptist Church where she and her late husband, Ronald, were very active in the upkeep of the church. Helen is survived by her husband, Francis “Frank” Griffin of Troy; her son, Ronald Bernier Jr. of Lewiston; her sister, Margaret Wolverton and her husband, Harry, of Centerville, New Brunswick; her son-in-law, John White Sr. of Houlton; and her nephew, Douglas Merritt Jr. and his wife, Jody, of Hodgdon. One of Helen’s greatest joys were her grandchildren, Jessica and Jeremy Bernier of Lewiston, John Jr., Michael and Jared White of Houlton; and her great-grandchildren, Devynn, Gavin, Thea and Jaxon of Houlton. Helen is also survived by a very close and very special friend, Judy Russell of Brewer. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ronald Bernier, Sr.; and her daughter, Karen White. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Military Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Burns officiating.
