HUDSON – Richard Robert Thompson Jr., 61, died peacefully Dec. 28, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at his residence. He was born Sept. 2, 1947, in Bangor, the son of Richard R. Sr. and Dorothy E. (Pinkham) Thompson. Richard was a Vietnam veteran having served with the U.S. Army Infantry Division. Richard married Arlene Bowden, May 10, 1974. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and truly enjoyed times shared hunting, fishing, ice fishing and camping with family. In the Maine Sportsman December 1980 issue, he was quoted “It was one of the best experience that my father and I have enjoyed together and I hope other fathers and sons get a chance to experience a moose hunt.” He and his wife, Arlene, shared a special fishing expedition to Lake Ontario with his cousin, Gary Pinkham and his wife, Linda, and he especially enjoyed fishing on East Grand Lake. Above all else, Dick was a loving and devoted family man, who always put his family first. He was also a genuine, hardworking, straight-shooting guy and was employed as a machinist foreman for General Electric, retiring after 34 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Arlene; three children, Richard Robert Thompson III and his wife, Donna, of Hudson, Karen Irene Thompson of Bangor, and Michael David Thompson of Hudson; three grandchildren, MacKenzie Kayla Thompson of Bangor, Gabrielle Rose and Renne Marie Thompson of Hudson; four sisters, Ellen Mae Sanborn and her husband, Ray, of Tennessee, Judy Ann Dugal of Old Town, Carol Sue Hodge and her husband, Frederic, of Stetson, and Cheri Louann Thomas and her husband, Michael, of Tennessee; a special nephew, Troy Allen Hornyak and his wife, Paula, of Levant; his stepmother, Hazel Thompson of Hermon; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. A graveside service with full military honors will be announced in the spring at Kenduskeag Union Cemetery.
