WOODLAND and CARIBOU – Brenda L. Sperry, 57, died Jan. 4, 2010, with her family by her side at her Woodland residence, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 21, 1952, in Caribou, the daughter of Lawrence and Fern (Bushey) Guerrette. She was a 1970 graduate of Caribou High School and later attended Husson College before becoming one of the first female loan officers in the state for Farmers Home Administration. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, as well as attending Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She married Steven Sperry, Sept. 19, 1970. For more than 30 years, Brenda was employed by the U.S. government, Farmers Home Administration – now Farm Services Agency, Presque Isle, retiring as a loan officer several years ago. Brenda loved her family, especially her four grandchildren, and after building her dream home in Woodland she could often be seen tending to her flower gardens with them or giving them rides in her golf cart or on her tractor. Many will remember her big wave and smile as you drove by while she and Steve were working in the yard. Brenda loved to travel and during the last several years, she and her husband took numerous memorable vacations, but none more important to her than her frequent trips to the Portland area to visit the grandchildren. Brenda also loved to do many types of crafts and many were the recipients of her handiwork. Surviving, in addition to her husband, Steven of Woodland, are her father, Lawrence of Caribou; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Melanie Sperry of Westbrook and granddaughters, Emma and Paige, and Jason and Chelsea Sperry of Windham and grandsons, Dylan and Parker; one brother, Roland Guerrette and his wife, Olga, of New Limerick; two sisters, Betty Thompson and her husband, Galen, of Caribou, and Susan Juliano of West Pompano Beach, Fla.; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Brenda was predeceased by her mother, Fern, Jan. 2, 2007. Friends may visit with the family 6-9 p.m. Friday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
