ERIE, Pa. – Brian James Shulkosky, 27, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa. Born April 20, 1982, at Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie, Pa., he was beloved son to Mark and Cindy (Hoffman) Shulkosky of Saint Marys, Pa., and formerly of Bangor. Brian was a kind and gentle soul who loved and was loved by his paternal grandparents, Doris and Leo Shulkosky of Erie, Pa., who predeceased him; his maternal grandparents, Patricia and John Hoffman of Erie, Pa.; great-aunt, Donna Minnig of Erie, Pa.; godparents, Ann Marie and Edward Dudek of Erie, Pa.; many more aunts, uncles and cousins. Brian is survived by his three brothers, Jeffrey Shulkosky and his wife, Sarah, of Pittsburgh, Steven Shulkosky and his fiancee, Jillian Foley, of South Portland, and Andrew Shulkosky of Saint Marys, Pa. Brian graduated from All Saints Catholic School, formerly St. John’s Catholic School, Bangor, and attended Bangor High School. Brian enjoyed playing young hockey for Bangor Youth Hockey and loved the players and coaches on his Peewee team that fell one game short of a state championship. At St. John’s he was a member of the varsity basketball team with their favorite play, “Get the ball to Charlie!” Since moving from Bangor in 2001, Brian enjoyed returning to his family’s camp on Toddy Pond, Surry. Brian was a graduate of Cam Tech with an associate degree in computer technology. He also earned an associate degree in respiratory therapy at Gannon University and was pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Brian was particularly proud of his most recent accomplishments: earning all A’s and being placed on the dean’s list. Brian was a remarkable young man who successfully faced many struggles throughout his short life. Above all things, Brian enjoyed being with his whole family. He also enjoyed playing video and board games, especially Monopoly, listening to Pink Floyd and Phish, and following Notre Dame football. Brian, his smile, caring ways and selflessness will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends and family are invited to call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc., 2502 Sassafras St., Erie, Pa., and are invited to attend a prayer service 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Peace Church, celebrated by Brian’s cousin, Father Dan Hoffman. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in memory of Brian J. Shulkosky to All Saints Catholic School, 166 State St., Bangor, ME 04401 or Bangor Youth Hockey, P.O.
