BANGOR – Ruth I. Voye passed away peacefully Jan. 21, 2010, after a long illness. She attended Orrington schools and graduated from Beals College, Bangor, with a junior secretarial degree. Ruth later went on to a career in nursing and worked in several nursing homes in the Lewiston/Auburn area. During her time in Lewiston, she was very active in housing and tenant issues. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and other crafts, and was an avid reader. Ruth spent many hours volunteering for the Salvation Army in both Lewiston and Bangor and volunteered at Phillips-Strickland House, Bangor. While residing at Nason Park Manor, she enjoyed the activities and taking day trips with her fellow residents to area attractions. She is survived by eight of her nine children: son, John Voye and his wife, Karen, of Hampden, daughter Jacqueline Gustafson of Hermon, daughter Desiree Sites and her husband, Richard, of Bowdoin, daughter, Linda Voye of Westly Chapel, Fla., son, Gary Voye and his wife, Donna, of St. Petersburg, Fla., daughter, Cindy Creps and her husband, Jaycee, of Hebron, daughter, Patricia Ouellette and her husband, Donald, of Sabattus and son, Vincent Voye of Oxford; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved very much. Ruth is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Sharon Nason and Helen Bean, who made her time at Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center much more pleasant with their frequent visits. She was predeceased by her husband, John A. “Jack” Voye; a son, Keith Voye; a special son-in-law, Richard Gustafson; her parents, Frederick and Helen Adams; and her sisters, Pearl Small, Marion Grover and Hazel Nason. A special thank you goes to the staff at Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their years of care, especially licensed practical nurse, Tim Quimby, who not only worked so diligently to heal her foot, but gave her the will to fight the diabetes; certified nurses’ aides, Stacy, Meaghan and Craig, who gave her special attention; also Sue Spaulding at the front desk who was a great comfort to Ruth and shared a birthday with her. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at Brookings-Smith Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held noon Tuesday, Jan. 26, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating. Spring interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Orrington. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer, immediately after the service Tuesday.
