HINESBURG, Vt., and HOWLAND – Daphine Lucille (Porter) Shirley passed away Saturday Jan. 23, 2010, with her loving family by her side, after a long illness. Daphine was born Oct. 15, 1924, in Lowell. She retired at age 73 from Hinesburg Community School. She is survived by her children: son, Mel Moore and wife, Audrey, son, Chris Shirley, daughter, Josephine Lavigne and husband, Gary, all of Hinesburg, Vt., and daughter, Janet Spencer of Passadumkeag; as well as nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Azube Palmer of Branford, Conn., Faye Wakefield of Enfield, Jacqueline and Carroll Palmer, and Mose and Barb Porter, all of Patten; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation hours will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28. Interment will be later in the spring in the family lot in Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Lung Association.
