Discovery Channel viewers soon will get a chance to see Russia from Alaska. That’s right, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has signed a reality TV deal, according to CNN.

The former Alaska governor will star in her own reality series, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” as a tour guide, showing off the people, places and traditions of her home state.

It’s bad enough that she’s on Fox News, which, to be honest, is a lot like reality TV. There have been many guesses as to what her true career aspirations are since stepping down as governor, but I suppose reality TV is a logical move and we shouldn’t be shocked. After all, it’s working for former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was removed from office after being accused of corruption and now is a contestant on Donald Trump’s “The Celebrity Apprentice.”

Last week, two passers-by on the street mistook him for Donny Osmond and it was all caught on camera. The moment was priceless.

While I can see it in the hair, the women should have known as soon as Blagojevich opened his political-jargon-spewing mouth that he was far from Osmond. It would have been funny, however, if they’d asked him to sing for them.

In other breaking reality news, Entertainment Weekly Online is reporting that former “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul is in negotiations with NBC to return to the reality screen.

After she turned down the chance to bring back “Star Search” (the “American Idol” of my youth), Abdul reportedly is thinking about a new reality series featuring flash-mob dancing. EW Online elaborated and explained that the idea would be to have Abdul and Kenny Ortega of “High School Musical” fame teaching dances to huge crowds in public places.

My take — not a good idea. Who’s going to watch it more than once? And then, I’m guessing it would only be for curiosity’s sake, not because it’s expected to be any good.
