HANOVER, N.H. – Mary Belle (Powers) Flanders, 94, formerly of Sangerville and Hampden, passed away peacefully March 30, 2010, with her daughter by her side at Outreach House, a residential care facility in Hanover, N.H., near her daughter’s home in White River Junction, Vt. She was born Dec. 27, 1915, in Medway, the youngest daughter of Henry E. Powers and Clara (Hamlin) Powers. Mary was a longtime resident of Hampden, and moved to Roy’s family homestead on the Burrough Road, Sangerville, upon his retirement. She was educated at Schenck High School, East Millinocket, and Farmington Normal School teacher’s college. She taught school at various times in Sangerville and Hampden. In addition to her husband and children, her lifelong love was Mount Katahdin, a book of which she takes with her. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard “Roy” Flanders; her parents, eight brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her sons, William Flanders and his wife, Susan, of West Gardiner, Eugene Flanders and his wife, Linda, of Hattiesburg, Miss., John Flanders and his wife, Sonja, of Turner and Bruce Flanders of Sebago; daughter, Nancy Golder and her husband, Sterling, of White River Junction, Vt.; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, in the family lot at Knowlton Mills Cemetery, Sangerville, with the Rev. Heather Kurtz officiating. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Outreach House, 11 South Park St., Hanover, NH 03755. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.
