MILLINOCKET – James P. “Buff” Caruso, 85, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Millinocket, son of Pasquale and Marie Caruso. Buff was a graduate of Stearns High School, Class of 1942, and went on to graduate from Ricker College, Houlton, where he met Jeanette M. Marshall, whom he married and shared 62 years with. Buff was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the European Theatre. He was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church and was a member of Millinocket Veterans of Foreign Wars. In addition to his wife, Jeanette Caruso of Millinocket, Buff is survived by a son, James P. Caruso Jr. of Millinocket; a daughter, Pamela Mola of Sanford; four grandsons, Todd Allen and his friend, Linda, of Raymond, N.H., Greg Caruso and his wife, Elizabeth, of Caratunk, Michael Caruso and his wife, Lynn, of Windham, and Jared Caruso of Bangor; five great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Christopher, Michael, Miranda and Holly; two sisters, Katherine “Kay” Caruso of Millinocket, and Mary “Gally” Osgood and her husband, Richard, of East Millinocket; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Francis “Punk” Caruso; and a half brother, Rosario Caruso. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours, 19 Colby St., Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider. Private interment will be held later in the spring at Millinocket Cemetery.
