CHARLESTON – Ira A. Mitcham, 81, passed away unexpectedly June 22, 2010, at his home. He was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Wenatchee, Wash., son of Ira and Rosemary (Robinson) Mitcham. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and was involved in the Berlin airlift. Ira and his wife owned and operated a boarding home in Charleston for many years. He was also a self-employed auto mechanic/auto body repairman for more than 30 years. Ira was an avid hunter and was well known in the Rockwood area for his hunting skill. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Frances (Munster) Mitcham; a son, Ira Allen Mitcham Jr.; a son-in-law, Ronald Douglass; and a grandson, Mitchell Forslind. He is survived by four daughters, Susan Douglass of Florida, Wilhelmina Collins and her husband, Christopher, of Corinth, Marie Clark and her husband, Roger, of Kenduskeag and Frances Mitcham-Forslind and David of New Hampshire; a son, James Mitcham of Charleston; nine grandchildren, Michael, Jo-Ann, Jessica, Jennifer, Jeanne, Christina, David, Kyle and Jason; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Brianna, Kaitlyn and Abigail; many nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his dogs, Fannie and Pepper Ann. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak St., Guilford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Father Richard Malo officiating.
