DANBURY, Conn., and OAKFIELD – Roland “Neal” Kinney Jr., 86, passed away Nov. 1, 2009, in Brookfield, Conn. Mr. Kinney was born June 3, 1923, in Oakfield. He graduated from Oakfield High School and Becker College. Mr. Kinney was formerly employed with Sperry Rail Service, a trustee for Beaver Brook Volunteer Fire Company and a lifetime member of Danbury Fish and Game Association, all in Connecticut, and a member of American Legion of Maine. Mr. Kinney was also a veteran of World War II and served three years in the Air Force, with one and a half years in Africa. Mr. Kinney moved from Maine to Danbury, Conn., in 1951. Mr. Kinney and his family spent almost every summer vacationing and fishing on Pleasant Pond, Island Falls, and came hunting for a week almost every fall with his friends. He always referred to Maine as “home.” Mr. Kinney was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann “Nancy” Kinney; and his sister, JoAnn Desmond of Island Falls. He is survived by four children, Barbara King and husband, Jeffrey, of Washington, Ellen Brangwynne of the Dominican Republic, Joan Ciferri and husband, Ernie, of Florida and David Kinney and wife, Karen, of Texas; two sisters, Helen “Peggy” Griffin of Florida and Lois Kennedy of Indiana; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather for a memorial service noon-2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Bowers Funeral Home, Sherman Street, Island Falls.
