EAST MACHIAS – Millard Stanhope, 70, passed away Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at his home. He was born Sept. 22, 1939, in Machias, to Gilbert Stanhope and Lois Johnson. He worked as a laborer and was a jack-of-all-trades. Millard enjoyed Western novels and movies. He is survived by his sons, Michael and his wife, Grace, of Bucksport, and Kenneth of Wasilla, Alaska; brothers and sisters, Annie Colby, Kate Lawrence, Louise Sinclair, Judy Spencer, Beverly Elwell and Richard Stanhope; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Wanda Stemplinski and her family. Millard was predeceased by his parents, Gilbert and Lois; three brothers, Gilbert, Arnold and Dale; and a grandson, Jamie Stanhope. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Longfellow Cemetery, Machias, with Pastor John Sprague officiating. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home.
