CALAIS – Phyllis Audrey Murphy, 82, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at her home. Phyllis was born April 3, 1928, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, daughter of the late Donald and Geneva Pomeroy. She graduated from high school in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, and from Holy Rosary Business School. Phyllis was a secretary for many years with the city of Calais, a teller for Calais Federal Bank and assisted her husband in operating their pizza shop, Hank’s Pizza. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and was actively involved with many church groups, including Brothers & Sisters for Mission and the music committee. She enjoyed square dancing and traveling to Florida. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John “Hank” Murphy; and two brothers, Donald and Kenneth Pomeroy. Surviving are her two sons, Brad Murphy and his wife, Debbie, of Calais, and Calvin Murphy and his wife, Deborah, of Bangor; four grandchildren, Erika, Erin, Jessefa and Ariel; two great-grandchildren, Kyson and Trayton; a sister, Marie Regan of McAdam, New Brunswick; a brother, Gordon Pomeroy of Moores Mills, New Brunswick; many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Second Baptist Church, Calais, with Pastor Matt Burden officiating. Burial will be after at Calais Cemetery.
