DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., – Howard L. Fowler, 92, formerly of Fort Fairfield, died Sept. 14, 2010, at his home. He was born Aug. 25, 1918, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Myra and Leslie Fowler. He graduated from Fort Fairfield High School in 1936. He married his high school sweetheart, Lois Cronkite, in 1940, and they remained a loving couple for 70 years. Howard was a successful potato farmer for 40 years and was active in Maine Potato Council and served on the board of directors of Federal Land Bank and Maine Potato Growers Association. He also served on the Fort Fairfield School Board, Lions Club and was a member of Masonic Lodge. Howard enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing trips to the Allagash region, and maintaining the family cottage at Long Lake. Howard and Lois moved to Daytona Beach in 1978. He worked as a park ranger for several years and enjoyed spending the summer months with family in Aroostook County. Surviving family members include his wife, Lois; their five children, Marilyn Seidler of Daytona Beach, Fla., James Fowler and his wife, Linda, of Concord, N.H., Phyllis Smith and her husband, David, of Caribou, Steven Fowler and his wife, Angelia, of Howland, and Wendell Fowler of Caribou; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Memorial service plans will be determined later.
