UNITY – Thomasine “Tommi” Houston Morrison, 68, “Buddy” to her grandchildren, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, after a lifetime well lived and well loved, including a valiant and successful fight against cancer for four and a half of the last five years. She died with family and friends at her side and continuing their full support at Thayer Hospital, Waterville. She was born Thomasine Houston, June 5, 1942, to Harry and Lurene in Millinocket. She attended school in Guilford, was an invited participant with the school band at Washington Cherry Blossom Festival. She graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1964. Tommi taught elementary school in Fairfield, then in South Carolina, Oklahoma and Unity. She is recalled by many as “the best teacher ever.” A mother and a grandmother, her family was of primary importance. A member of Unity Union Church, her favorite activities included bridge with “the Ladies” and cribbage – she usually won. A special life experience for Tommi was the summers as counselor at Wavus Camps, Jefferson. The family thanks friends and family who have been of extraordinary support, and the staffs of CancerCare of Maine, Brewer; Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor; Waldo County Home Health, Belfast; Thayer Hosptial, Waterville; and Hospice/Health Reach, Waterville, all of whom have been tireless, courageous, and caring beyond the call. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Unity Center for the performing Arts, Depot Street, Unity. The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at Unity Union Church, Depot Street, Unity.
