HOULTON – Jeffrey Alan Jewell, 38, passed away peacefully Oct. 9, 2010, with his family by his side at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born May 17, 1972, in Houlton, the son of Eugene and Carol (Crabbe) Jewell. Jeff graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1990. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army, serving in the artillery division in South Korea from 1991 to 1992. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 47, Houlton. He graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle, with degrees in history and social studies in 2001. He became a junior / senior high school teacher and taught for many years at Jay Middle School and most recently at Presque Isle High School. He was loved and well respected by his students and colleagues. Jeff was a kind man, who knew how to make people laugh as everyone knew him for his sense of humor. He lit up a room and always knew the right thing to say in any circumstance. Along with his love of American history, Jeff enjoyed collecting things, including comic books, and loved watching the Red Sox and other New England sports teams. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, listening to music and watching movies. He was a wonderful father who loved and took great pride in his children. He is survived by his daughters, Zoe, 8, and Vada, 3, both of Auburn; his parents, Eugene and Carol Jewell of Houlton; his brother, Chris Jewell and partner, Christie Callahan, of Vass, N.C.; his sister, Alicia Fowle and her husband, Brandon, of Glenburn; maternal grandmother, Muriel Crabbe of Brownville Junction; a special uncle and aunt, Ernest and Glenna Jewell of Houlton; his partner, Tammy Dumont of South Portland; several other aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins. He will be remembered by a special lifelong friend, Greg Koester of Houlton and Katy Jewell of Auburn. He was predeceased by his brother, Kevin. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dunn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Visitation Church with the Rev. David Raymond, celebrant. Interment with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
