RIMOUSKI, Quebec – Sister Vivian Bond, R.S.R., 97, went home to her loving God Oct. 26, 2010, in her 78th year as a Sister of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. Born in 1913, in Douglastown, on the Gaspe Coast in the province of Quebec, Sister Vivian was the oldest of seven children of Irish descent. After her religious profession in 1935, Sister Vivian was missioned to Frenchville, Millinocket, Fort Kent and Portland, and served in Price and Nazareth, small parishes in the province of Quebec, and then at Motherhouse, Rimouski, Quebec. She was one of the foundresses of St. Martin of Tours Catholic School, Millinocket. For 75 years Sister Vivian was a competent dedicated teacher, directress, catechist, parish coordinator and university librarian. She was deeply committed to the youth in their educational, spiritual development and their total wellbeing. In her later years, Sister Vivian taught private English courses to adults right up to a month before her last illness. Sister Vivian rendered many community services, translating many documents from French to English, writing books on Elisabeth Turgeon the Foundress, and on the history of the congregation. Her service was always one of love, kindness and generosity. Sister Vivian was highly appreciated in the state of Maine, where she was missioned for 56 years. She was a woman of prayer, attentive to the call of the Lord and was ready to answer God’s call effectively and attentively. She reached out to people of all ages, of all walks of life and kept alive her friendship with each. Sister Vivian leaves us with memories of a woman of hope who loved life. She has two sisters remaining, Sister Louisa Bond, R.S.R., of Rimouski, Quebec, and Theresa Kennedy, of Montreal. She also has many nieces and nephews. Her funeral was held Oct. 29 at Motherhouse of the Sisters of the Holy Rosary, Rimouski, Quebec.
