MONSON – John B. Greenleaf, 61, passed away peacefully Nov. 13, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Feb. 7, 1949, in Greenville, the son of Robert and Dagmar (Ryder) Greenleaf. He graduated from Monson Academy and attended the University of Maine, Orono. John worked for Guilford Industries for many years, retiring in 2008. He served in the Air National Guard from 1975 to 1984. He was an officer of Monson United Church of Christ and of Monson Alumni Association. A big part of John’s life was his involvement within the Masonic fraternity. He was a member of several Masonic orders and served as an officer at many levels of Free Masonry, including but not limited to, serving as senior grand warden of the Grand Lodge of Maine, 1997-1998; past master of Abner Wade Lodge of Sangerville, where he also served as secretary; Mount Kineo Lodge No. 109, Guilford; district deputy grand master of the 5th Masonic District, 1988-1989; high priest of Piscataquis Royal Arch Chapter No. 21; Tamerlane Conclave No. 4 Red Cross of Constantine in Bangor, which he most recently served as senior general; illustrious master of Central Council No. 18 Royal & Select Masters; was a member of St. Johns Commandery No. 6 Knights Templar and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. John was also a past patron of Fireside Chapter No. 103 Order of the Eastern Star, Clinton, and Susie Carr Chapter No. 181 Order of the Eastern Star, Sangerville. Back in the day, John loved motorcycling with “the man.” He is survived by his mother of Monson; five siblings, Susan Flynn and her husband, James, of Virginia, James Greenleaf and his wife, Margie, of Wells, Jeffrey Greenleaf and his wife, Sandee, of Windham, Joel Greenleaf and his wife, Margarita, of Ohio and Shelley Knowlton and her husband, Tim, of Abbot; 12 nieces and nephews. John was also close to his favorite dogs, Dee and CJ. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Mount Kineo Masonic Lodge, Guilford, where Masonic services will be held 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Monson United Church of Christ with the Rev. Chad Poland officiating. Private burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Monson.
