LUBEC – Marie R. Olson passed away Nov. 14, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at a Machias hospital. She was born Oct. 28, 1932, in Lubec, daughter of the late Willard and Amy (Wormell) Ramsdell. Growing up in Lubec, she was a hard worker and enjoyed being outdoors. She worked as a sardine packer for more than 33 years, working for R.J. Peacock Canning Co. and other local sardine factories. She enjoyed working in her yard gardening, canning, picking berries and making jam, as well as camping, fishing and clamming. She especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends. She had a very good sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes on others. Her door was always open and there was a place at the table for you. She was a member and chaplain of American Legion Stuart-Green Post No. 65 Women’s Auxiliary and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Parkinson-Vose No. 3315 Women’s Auxiliary, both of Lubec. She is survived by her four children, Lynette and husband, Eugene, Philip and wife, Tammy, Linda and husband, Dean, and Junia and husband, Steve; two stepchildren, Robert and Jeannie; 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert Olson Sr.; infant daughter, Evelyn Marie; stepson, Harold; and brother, Harold Ramsdell. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Christian Temple Church, Lubec, with Pastor Gary Look officiating. A reception will be after at Marie’s home at “Quoddy Head.” In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make donations in her memory may do so to Lubec Memorial Library or to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Machias and Lubec.
