HOWARD, Colo. – Less than two months after her 60th birthday, Cynthia “Cindy” Ann (Jones) Hinckley died unexpectedly Nov. 6, 2010, at her home. A Howard, Colo., resident for the last 10 years, Cindy was born Sept. 17, 1950, in Hartland, to Sumner and Barbara Jones. She grew up on the family farm in Pittsfield and graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1968. As a young adult and resident of Sumner, she raised four daughters, and was a primary part of Sumner Recreation Club and softball program, the Grange, and Sumner and Mollyocket Mud Runs. Throughout her life, Cindy was known for her great vegetable gardens, her excitement for picking apples and berries, foraging for mushrooms in the mountains of Colorado and having a bead on every fruit tree in the Salida/Howard, Colo., area. She loved to hike, visit the hot springs and explore new areas of the state. Cindy was an avid sports fan – first cheering for her daughters, then for the Red Sox and the Colorado Rockies. She traveled back to Maine often to visit her children, grandchildren and extended family. Cindy was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service for the last 22 years and was looking forward to retiring within the next year. She began her career in Lewiston, making her way west in 1995 to work and live in Denver. A short time later she moved to Howard, Colo., where she purchased a mountain cabin and created a homestead with her partner of six years, Duane Booth. She leaves behind her true love, Duane Booth of Howard, Colo.; daughter, Jennifer Waterman and her husband, James Waterman, and their children, Sadie, Charlotte and Cora, of Sabattus; daughter, Hannah Flannery and her husband, Ryan Flannery, and their children, Porter and Josephine, of Readfield; daughter, Emily Ellis and her husband, Shane Ellis, and their children, Cedar, Lolietta Ray and RosieAnn, of Dover-Foxcroft; daughter, Sarah Hinckley most recently of Southwest Harbor; her parents, Sumner and Barbara Jones of Pittsfield; her six siblings, Nancy Fisk of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Scott Jones of Pittsfield, Marjorie Scott of Athens, Priscilla Jones of Palmyra, Mark Jones of Gorham and Betsy Wood of Avon Park, Fla.; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her former husband, Glenn Hinckley of Sumner.
