FORT KENT and EAGLE LAKE – Imelda (Parent) Plourde, 88, died peacefully Jan. 25, 2011, with her family by her side at a Fort Kent health care facility. She was born July 28, 1922, in Eagle Lake, daughter of Octave and Anna (Pelletier) Parent. Imelda worked for Hamilton Standard in the early 40s, and later as a full-time mother and a nurse’s aide at the Eagle Lake nursing home. She was past president of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Ladies of St. Anne. She was very active in Catholic Youth Organization. Imelda’s favorite pastimes were playing cards, reading and crocheting for her family and friends, having made hundreds of blankets, baptismal shawls and sweaters. She also enjoyed traveling, visiting California, Alaska, Texas, Florida, Connecticut and Small Point, Maine. Recently she became a Facebook devotee and even showed her kids how to Skype. She is survived by three sons, Lloyd and his wife, Kathy, of Spring, Texas, Marc and his wife, Rachel, of Hermon and Terry and his wife, Brenda, of Fort Kent; five daughters, Beulah and her husband, Dennis Knight, of Small Point, Sandra Jandreau of Portage Lake, Gail Marie and her husband, Gary Stadig, of Chugiak, Alaska, Linda and her husband, Lorris Washington, of Elk Grove, Calif., and Deborah and her husband, Frank Cormier, of Chugiak, Alaska; one brother, Conrad Parent of Eagle Lake; 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Benoit Plourde, in 1969; one son, Alan, in 2007; one daughter, Mona Jean, in 1952; two grandsons, Trevor Thomas and Tyler Kevin; seven brothers, Luke, Omer, Ludger, Arthur, Leo, Raoul and Leonard; and three sisters, Irene, Flora and Marie Rose. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 10-11:30 a.m. Friday at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated noon Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Eagle Lake. Spring burial will be held May 16 in the parish cemetery. At the request of the family, those who wish in her memory may donate to the bed fund at St. Andrew’s Hospital, 6 St. Andrew’s Lane, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538, where her son, Alan, was an LPN and then a treasured patient.
