BANGOR – Myrle B. Curtis, 95, died Jan. 28, 2011, at a local hospital, after a brief illness. He was born June 12, 1915, in Augusta, son of Wallace Edward and Bertha (White) Curtis.
Myrle was a graduate of Gardiner High School, Class of 1933. He was the proud captain of his high school hockey and football teams. After serving four years in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army during World War II as captain, he went home to marry his high school sweetheart, Agnes Henderson. They were married 42 years until Agnes’ death in 1987. He was a tremendously loving and supportive husband and father. Myrle managed Armour Meats for 37 years. He was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Curtis and his wife, Deborah, of Manchester and Edward Curtis of Bangor; one daughter, Andrea Hatfield of Rogers, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Andrew Curtis, Emily Curtis, Jeni Reiser, Katie Fremsted, Betsy Hatfield, Kelsey Curtis and Kristina Curtis; four great-grandchildren, Maddie and Sophie Reiser, Jackson Thibeault and Sammy Fremsted; several loving nieces, nephews and terrific friends. Myrle was predeceased by his loving wife, Agnes “Aggie” Curtis; sister, Maxine Sprague; brother, Keith Curtis; twin brother, Myron Curtis; and a very special son-in-law, Ronald Hatfield. Special thanks to his friends and staff at Sunbury Village, Ohio Street, Bangor, where he was able to live comfortably and independently until just prior to his passing.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the service Friday. Spring interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
