BLAINE – John M. Grass, 95, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Aroostook Health Center, Mars Hill. He was born May 9, 1915, in Unity, the son of John A. and Sarah (Mullen) Grass.

A hard worker, John owned and operated his own farm in Blaine, raising potatoes and livestock alike, for many years. He was a member and a past deacon of First Free Baptist Church, Blaine. He was a longtime member and past master of Mountain Grange No. 331.

John was also a recipient of the Golden Cane for being the oldest citizen of Blaine.

He is survived by his son and his wife, Duane and Brenda Grass, and his daughter, Charlotte Shaw, all of Mars Hill; grandchildren, Kevin Grass and his wife, Donna, Beth Cook and her husband, Chris, Andrew Grass and his fiancee, Brittany, Erica McCrum and her husband, Darrell, and Ryan Shaw and his wife, Sadie; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Zackary, Carly, Mitchell, Libby, Hannah, Rebecca and Collin; and sisters-in-law, Rowena Grass and Launa Durost, both of Bridgewater. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Susie (Bubar) Grass; brothers and sister-in-law, Philip and Doris Bubar, and Burton Durost; a son-in-law, Butch Shaw; brothers, Rueben and Louis Grass; and sisters, Mildred Kingsbury and Ella Griffin.

Relatives and friends may call noon until the time of service 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Mars Hill United Baptist Church, with Pastors Mitch Ross, Lawrence Beals and Mark Carter officiating. A spring interment will be at Tapley Cemetery, Blaine. Donations in his memory may be made to Aroostook Hospice House of Comfort Foundation, P.O. Box 766, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
