ORLAND – Herbert Maurice Gerow Sr. died Feb. 10, 2011, at his home. He was born July 21, 1925, in Hodgdon, the son of Maurice and Eleanora (Merritt) Gerow.
Herbert was a graduate of Bucksport High School, a World War II Navy veteran, owner of Willo Crest Chicken Farm, Prospect, for 28 years, drove a school bus for 50 years and was active in his church for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen Gerow of Orland; sister, Nella Stone of Bucksport; brother, Philip Gerow and his wife, Ina Jane, of Milo and South Portland; his children, Sherrianne Closson and her husband, Richard, of Brooksville, Herbert Gerow Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, of Bucksport, Coralee Perkins of Bangor, Milford Hawksley of Belfast, Thomas Hawksley and his wife, Danielyn, of Florida and Lisa Bas of Bucksport; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews. Herbert was predeceased by his father and mother; his sister, Alice Deveau; and his first wife, Florence Gerow. The family gives a special thanks to New Hope Hospice.
Visitation will be held 1 p.m. until time of services 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at Evangelical Baptist Church, Bucksport, with Pastor Michael Donato and Pastor Ken Davenport officiating.
