MILLINOCKET – Marvin “Red” Lane, 81, died Feb. 13, 2011, with family members and his wonderful caregivers by his side at Katahdin Health Care Facility. He was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Millinocket, the son of John A. and Mae (Stitham) Lane.
Red graduated from Stearns High School, Class of 1947, and served in the U.S. Army in Schwabisch Gmuend, Germany, and Neckarsulm, Germany, from 1951 to 1954. Red enjoyed Germany, its people and its culture. It was also the place where he met his wonderful wife, Marianne Dosch. After he returned to Millinocket, he worked as a papermaker for Great Northern Paper Co. until his retirement after 29 years of service. Red was an avid outdoorsman and loved being in the woods. He enjoyed fishing and especially fall hunting camp in Charleston with his good friend, Raymond Freeman. His dry wit and wry sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him. He was also a talented wood worker alongside his brother, Alton, for many years. Red belonged to Francis E. Elliott Post No. 4154 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Millinocket.
Red is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marianne Lane of Millinocket; a daughter, Dianne Terrio and fiance, John Patrick Sullivan, of Millinocket; sons, Steve and wife, Theresa, of Millinocket and Bob of Augusta; granddaughters, Shelby and Taylor Lane of Millinocket; his sister, Ruth Jewell of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by special friends, Raymond Freeman and Charles Davis; and special cousins, Neil Lane and Mavis Martinkovic. Red was predeceased by his parents, John A. and Mae (Stitham) Lane; and a brother, Alton Lane.
