CAMDEN – Charles “Chris” C. Lowe, 59, died unexpectedly while working Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011. Born May 26, 1951, in Camden, he was the son of Charles Herman and Wilma (Dougherty) Lowe.

He was a 1969 graduate of Camden-Rockport High School, where he was active in baseball, basketball, track, student council, boxing, weight lifting and Hi-Y. In 1973 Chris received a degree in marketing management from Husson College, where he was also a member of the honor fraternity Phi Theta Pi. Chris had been active in 4-H during his youth, was involved with the Maine Horse Association and was an expert equestrian. He attended Outward Bound survival school in 1968. On July 17, 1972, he married Evelyn McKenney at Vesper Hill Chapel, Rockport. For many years Chris had owned and operated Prince’s, Inc. furniture store in Camden and later in Rockland after the business was relocated. His hobbies included skiing, horseback riding, ice skating, snowmobiling, fishing and motorcycling. He recently took a road trip with his Harley friends across the U.S. riding coast to coast. Chris also traveled throughout the U.S. with family and friends, and often enjoyed trips to Disney World while his children were growing up. A member of Camden Fire Department for 37 years, Chris held various officer positions and served on many committees. He was instrumental in the establishment of Camden First Aid Access Team in 1987 along with other community members. Chris was a member of Route 90 Business Association, Camden Lion’s Club, Amity Masonic Lodge, Camden Fire Department Advisory Committee, town of Camden Budget Committee and was serving as vice chairman of the town of Camden Cemetery Committee. He also had served as a judge of elections alternate for Camden National Bank at their annual stockholders meeting.

Surviving are his three children, Patrick Lowe and his fiancee, Becky Howard, of Camden, Andrew M. Lowe and his wife, Kimberly, of Hope and Amanda L. Fairfax and her husband, Ross, of Branford, Conn.; sisters, Janet Martel and her husband, Leo, of Vermont, Martha Bouchard of Rockland, Val Rohrer and her husband, Richard, of Minneapolis and Mary Quinn and her husband, Tom, of Camden; three grandchildren, Jaxon, Noah and Morgan; his fiancee, Cheryl Farley of Camden; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Wilma Lowe.

Calling hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at First Congregational Church, 55 Elm St., Camden, with the Rev. Kevin Pleas officiating. A reception will be afterward.
